We've all hit creative obstacles when making music. Maybe you can't figure out how to start a composition, or maybe you've run out of steam after an initial flurry of inspiration. Maybe you just can't seen to finish your tracks. Well, Ableton have just published a new book to help you over all of those hurdles, entitled Making Music: 74 Creative Strategies for Electronic Music Producers.
Although the book's author, Dennis DeSantis, is Ableton's Head of Documentation, it's not just for Ableton Live users and instead aims to help any DAW-user make music. At over 370 pages, the book lays out a comprehensive set of solutions for common problems encountered by the electronic musician. The book also gets some of Ableton's favourite artists to share their strategies for starting new pieces of music.
Making Music is divided into three sections, the first of which deals with problems (and solutions) at the beginning stages of the music-making process. The second offers concrete solutions for progressing your tracks, while the final chapter suggests ways of finishing off.
