For the recording of Spitfire’s brand new Studio Strings virtual instrument, the British sample makers have returned to Air Studios where so many of their other libraries have been recorded.
However, instead of harnessing the impressive ambience of Lyndhurst Hall, this time they have deliberately chosen the compact and controllable sound of Studio One. The idea was to make a library that can be used for anything from pop to epic film scores, allowing you to add your own reverbs and effects should you desire.
The new libraries feature top London session musicians tracked to tape using the highest quality recording chain, by award-winning engineer Simon Rhodes (Avatar, Skyfall). Recorded section by section (1st violin, 2nd violins, violas, cellos and double basses), the library is available in two versions: Core and Professional.
The Core version equips you with a 30-piece string ensemble (configured as 8,6,6,6,4) with 148 articulations, from soaring legato and Spitfire’s signature whispering super-flautando, through to spiccato, hairpins, grace notes, and fx.
The Professional version, meanwhile, allows control over half sections for greater detail (in 4.3.3.3 configuration) right up to a powerful 16.12.12.12.4 configuration. An astonishing 232 articulations are available in Pro as well as six different mic configurations from pin-sharp to super-wide. Spitfire Studio Strings will be available soon and will cost £199$249 for the Core version and £449$499 for the Professional.
